FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — A young Florida woman wanted to say thanks to the man who saved her life, so she used social media to track down her hero.Cameras showed Amari Holcey as she stood feet from where she almost drowned off Fernandina Beach, near Jacksonville, Wednesday evening.“I love to get in the water, but after going through what I went through, I don’t want to get back in,” she said.Holcey, 18, said she came to the beach with friends at around 7 p.m.She said the water was kind of rough, but that didn’t stop them from getting in.Not long after, things took a turn.“Once I realized I couldn’t touch the ground, and I was not moving back towards the shore, I panicked. A man is behind bars days after a chaotic crash in Southwest Miami-Dade that left three innocent people injured.James Bradley Exposito was released from the hospital and booked into jail on Saturday.The 39-year-old faces a list of drug charges.According to Miami-Dade Police, Exposito had been under investigation after selling drugs to an undercover informant in May.On Wednesday, police were attempting to take the suspect into custody when, they said, he led them on a chase.Exposito is accused of attempting to run over detectives and causing a chain-reaction crash in the area of Southwest 132nd Street and U.S. 1.

The bomb squad was called to the area of Mass. Annual PRIDE South Side festival held in Washington Park

CHICAGO — The annual PRIDE celebration for the black LGBTQ+ community took place on the South Side on Saturday.Pride: Stories of Chicago's Very OwnA festival was held on the grounds of the DuSable Black History Museum in Washington Park. The organizers, Pride South Side, say they intentionally held their event after PRIDE month's conclusion to bring focus to the Black and Brown communities on the South and West sides. The festival, featuring music, food and arts, is now in its fifth year. The Chicago Black PRIDE film screening at the DuSable Museum will be held on Sunday.  The event begins at 3:30 p.m.

Sentencing awaits suburban man guilty of N95 mask price gouging

CHICAGO — A Winnetka businessman has been found guilty of buying thousands of N-95 masks early in the pandemic and selling the protective wear at significant markups.  Krikor Topouzian, 62, was convicted of buying nearly 80,000 masks through his health supply business in April of 2020.  Prosecutors say Topouzian bought the masks for about $5 each and resold them for $20  – a markup of approximately 185% to 367% per mask. Topouzian engaged in the price gouging despite repeated warnings, including from law enforcement, about the illegal nature of his conduct, even after the government labeled them "scarce materials" and friends told him his prices were too high.  Read more: Latest Chicago news headlinesProsecutors also allege that Topouzian boasted about "making massive profits," stating in a text exchange that he was making $50-80,000 a day and about $1 million on some weeks.He could face up to a year in prison. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- We’re now halfway through 2023 and it’s time for a weather status check. As you’ve probably noticed, it has been hotter than usual, especially in the month of June. Graphic shows rainfall amounts for the 1st half of the year (Jan. 1st-June 30th). Normal rainfall for Austin is 18.54" vs. the rain in 2023 is 14.32". Typically, in a normal January-June period we receive 18.54 inches of rain in Austin. For the first half of this year however, we have only accumulated 14.32 inches, more than 4” below the rainfall totals we should have by now. This rainfall deficit has allowed drought conditions to persist, especially for parts of the Hill Country. Rain is much needed for the majority of Central Texas. The hottest temperatures from January to June in Austin show 2017 is the hottest, however 2023 isn't far behind ranked at 9th place with an average temperature of 68.6 degrees.The first six months of 2023 have a mean average temperature of 68.6.
